Eswatini Awards Manzini Water Contract

Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) has awarded a US$31.9 million contract to the local Inyatsi Construction to carry out Lot 2 of the Manzini region water and sanitation project in central Eswatini.
The work entails building treated water gravity mains including 12km of mains from the Logoba to Mphilo reservoirs, 3km of mains to the Manzini South area and 4km of mains from the airport reservoir to the Nhlambeni network. It also includes the construction of reinforced concrete storage reservoirs with capacities of 9 million litres at Mphilo and 12 million litres at Logoba as well as the construction of a distribution extension system in Logoba and Mphilo.
The contract start date is 12 February 2024 and the duration is 18 months with a defects notification period of 12 months. Expressions of interest were invited in July 2022.

Four districts are covered in particular: Mtfongwaneni, Mafutseni, Manzini South and Nhlambeni.
The overall project is estimated to cost US$42.6 million. The African Development Bank (AfDB) is providing US$38 million and the government of Eswatini US$4.6 million. 
South African consultant Gibb Africa started developing detailed designs for the scheme in 2019.
In July 2023, EWSC awarded a US$20.7 million contract for Lot 1 of the Manzini project to a joint venture of Inyatsi Construction and Malawi’s Plem Construction and HE Jackson Engineering. 
The work for Lot 1 entails the construction of a new 12 million-litre-a-day water treatment plant at Matsapha, a treated water pump station, an intake pump station, 900 metres of raw water transmission mains, 6km of treated water rising mains and staff housing. 
The contract start date was 31 July and work was to be completed in 548 days.
